Dialogue Theatre

Dialogue Theatre is an applied theatre technique developed by the Free Theatre team with the Makhampom Theatre Group in Thailand. It is a a two part form - the Play & the Dialogue - bringing together immersive theatre and conflict transformation methodologies. Ideal for both actors and non-actors, it unpacks conflicts and tensions by engaging audience and actor-characters in conversation. Dialogue Theatre is both a performance form and workshop technique. Free Theatre has developed it into an online training Module, as a practical toolkit of 39 exercises.

Dialogue Toolkit

The Dialogue Toolkit is a series of workshop exercises offering dialogue tools for organisations, educators, artists, and civil society professionals. Using theatre-based tools grounded in 4 decades of practice, The Dialogue Toolkit offers a unique and effective approach to transforming conflict, covering 3 core areas: Naming Conflict, Unpacking Conflict, and Transforming Conflict. The workshop exercises apply creative techniques to explore issues of power, identity, dilemma, stereotyping, empathy, and transformation as can be facilitated as a 5-day masterclass or as tailored packages of exercises.

Reigniting the Free Theatre flame in these challenging times.

As the world faces the overlapping threats of pandemic, economic crisis, anti-democratic forces, and social dislocation, like most artists, we have found ourselves reimagining our practice. This new website marks Free Theatre's next chapter, as we bring our Dialogue Theatre form online and introduce The Dialogue Toolkit to empower organisations, professionals, students, educators, and artists with new creative methods to address conflicts and tensions in our worlds.
